Our Bible Study Ministries
Sunday Morning Bible Study
Our church offers age appropriate Bible study classes each Sunday morning at 10 am. These classes take place in our Fellowship Hall. For adults, a men’s class and a women’s class is offered. These classes not only offer a thoughtful study of The Scriptures but they also provide a support group of caring people who minister to each other.
Lunch and Learn
Once in the spring and once in the fall our church offers special units of study called Lunch and Learn. Lunch and Learn sessions meet once a week for four to five weeks. These devotional units cover topics related to the Bible, theology, spirituality, the Christian life and other topics relevant to one’s spiritual life and growth. As the title implies, these one hour sessions take place around a shared lunch.
Our Support Ministries
Good Grief
For those facing the pain and anxiety of loss, we offer a grief support ministry. Our grief support group, call Good Grief, meets at 3 pm on the first and third Sundays of each month. It'as an informal group that allows members to share their hurts with other group members who truly understand. The group is led by Linda Roberts who is herself a grief survivor. If you would like more information you can call Linda at (865) 850-4455.
The members of Rutledge Baptist Church love their music and our times of worship are always enriched by the singers and musicians who provide worship music. The musical offerings are diverse, covering many different genre. Our church choir meets for rehearsal each Sunday morning at 9:30 am. Additionally, many of our members share their individual musical talents through solos, duets and small group performances. Several times a year (often on the fifth Sunday of a month) we dedicate the entire worship service to music.
The people at Rutledge Baptist Church enjoy a special relationship with the congregations at Rutledge United Methodist Church and Saint John Paul II Catholic Mission. As we worship and serve together we demonstrate the power of ecumenism to the people of Grainger County. The following are some of our ecumenical activities.
Because of the generous donation of food and money, the Hands of Christ Food Pantry can provide a week’s worth of food to families that find themselves in need. The Food Pantry works closely with other community agencies so this ministry can effectively provide healthy food to as many people as possible. Each November, the Food Pantry also hosts a Turkey Give Away so those in need can have a special Thanksgiving meal.
Each summer, our three congregations jointly sponsor a community Vacation Bible School. The school takes place at Rutledge Baptist Church and includes teachers and workers from all three congregations.
During the Lenten season, usually in March, our three congregations join together for three nights of ecumenical worship. Each night is hosted by a different congregation.
Rutledge and Grainger County are home to many Hispanic immigrants who come to the area to work in the agricultural industry. Most of these immigrants are Catholic and attend St. John Paul II Catholic Mission, but in order to meet their needs, all three congregations work together, providing food and funds for emergency support.
In a coordinated effort with Bean Station Baptist Church, our congregation provides a ministry of love and support to the inmates of the local women’s prison. Using the Celebrate Recovery Program, our members conduct Bible studies and provide Celebrate Recovery Bibles to women who need new direction in their lives.
During the school year, the county’s public school system helps under-privileged students by providing free lunches; but during the summer break, these children sometimes are neglected. To support this gap in the feeding program, our church donates funds to help feed these students in the summer.
Kingswood Home for Children is a residential children's home for ages 5-18 located in Grainger County. Kingswood provides a safe, Christian home environment for children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or displaced. Our church regularly assists by providing funds for this valuable ministry.
Shepherd’s Heart Ministries helps orphaned children in Mexico and Honduras and currently sponsors Hope House, an orphanage housing 25 boys. Our church regularly provides funding to assist this valuable ministry.
Each year, volunteer doctors, nurses and dentists come to Grainger County to offer a free medical and dental clinic for those who cannot afford these health services. Members of our congregation often provide assistance to these volunteers.
Because of some minor criminal infraction occurring in the past, community residents are sometimes unable to get employment. Working within the legal system, our church helps provide a program so these wholesome members of society can have their past criminal record expunged.
